1900s China Antique Photo " Peking Railroad Station " Sepia Photo 1913
Item History & Price
This photo is from a collection taken by a young American woman as she traveled the globe from 1912-1914. Cruising with her father, Admiral Albert Ross U.S.N. She was 22 years old during this two-year journey. She was my grandmother. Few people can have made such a comprehensive and leisurely journey. Alice Brewer Ross (1890-1980) visited Hawaii, Pago Pago, New Zealand, Australia, Philippines, Japan, China, Burma, Siam, Indi...a, Turkey, Jerusalem, The Levant, Egypt and finally home through Europe on the Orient Express. She traveled by horse and buggy, ship, sedan, camel, rickshaw, elephant, Wight airplane, automobile, and train. The private train car was parked where they wished, like an RV, for as long as they wished. America’s position in the world and, and Alice’s position in society-the Admiral’s daughter- ensured the hospitality of royalty and potentates in every nation.
This original photo is in Near Fine condition-slight edge curl but otherwise FINE-as pictured. In her hand on the reverse says "Railroad Station Peking..."measures 4" x 3.25"
The group family photo is just for reference, not for sale. Alice is seated on the right. Please ask any questions and I will gladly respond.I currently have many more photos from the same 1912 family trip listed for auction!
