Item History & Price
The Zenith watch company was formed in Switzerland in 1865 to produce high quality pocketwatches. They are still in business building top quality timepieces. Before and during WW I and WW II Zenith had contracts to produce watches for the armies and navies of several European nations and their watches were also popular p...rivate purchase items by military and government officers.
This Zenith watch - serial number indicates production in 1913 - features a detailed embossed depiction of a circa 1910 submarine on the back of its case. The vessel depicted resembles early UB-1 - UB-6 German submarines. The watch is a 15 jewel timepiece with 12 and 24 hr. markings. The original german silver Zenith case is of the screw on bezel hinged movement design sometimes called a 'refrigerator case' in the USA. This design was intended to keep the watch movement as protected and watertight as possible in rough service.
CONDITION: The watch is in excellent condition, the movement is running well, the dial is excellent with original blued steel hands, and the case is in excellent condition with crisp detail and fine light patina.
A unique artifact for the naval or submarine collector. The watch has been with us for years, we are downsizing.
