Model 1840 Musicians Sword Dated 1863 - C. Roby Construction:Brass handle, guard, and pommel with iron blade. Overall length: 34-1/4 inches. Blade length 28 inches. Condition: Very good, non-excavated. No bends, cracks, breaks, or repairs. The sword has a very pleasing overall darkened patina. One tiny chip in blade. The sword comes witha period correct steel and brass Scabbard. It fits loosely but patina matches spot on so they have been together for a very long time. On one side of t...he ricasso is the manufacturer's stamp of "C. ROBY / WEST CHELMSFORD MS." which is partially visible. On the other side is stamped "U.S. / 1863 / F.S.S." (the letter "F" is not visible). The letters "F.S.S." are the initials of the government inspector, Frederic S. Strong. The brass guard is also stamped with the inspector's initials "F.S.S." please use photos as part of the description. Sword is unaltered or cleaned in any way.
