There are two items in this listing. A professionally framed CDV of James F. Carman, a Buglar, in Co. A of the 2nd Illinois Artillery, and his Discharge Paper also professionally framed.
In the CDV James F. Carman appears very young, but if you look closely, he's wearing what appears to be a wedding ring. Unfortunately he is not carrying his bugle in the photo. It is in very condition, framed and protected under Tru View Conservation Grade 99% UV protection gla...ss.
What we learn from the Discharge Paper: James F. Carman was born in Breckenridge, KY. He was 6' 1/2" tall with light complexion, light hair and blue eyes. James was a farmer. James was enrolled into Co. A, 2nd Illinois Artillery on August 17, 1861 at age 18. He served three years in the Union Army as a Buglar. He was discharged in New Orleans, LA on Jan 31, 1864 at age 21 in order to enter the Veteran Service.The Discharge Paper is also framed and protected just like the CDV.
