For sale is this beautiful Vienna Art Plate, made by the H.D. Beach Co. The H.D. Beach Co. started business in 1901 in Coshocton, Ohio, at the foot of the Appalachians. In 1904, Henry Beach applied for a patent of a "Metal Plaque" — intended for ornamental advertising purposes. The patent was granted in 1905 for a two layer plate, front and back, crimped together at the outer edges. The Beach Company was one of many such companies producing portrait / art / advertising plates at the ...time.
H.D. Beach produced at least 8 different exclusive plates for ANGER BAKING CO. consisting of three different portraits with differing border designs and colors all of which involve young children and are marked Anger Baking Co., New York on the back. (The identity of the baby in the portrait is unknown). This is 16A with a maroon border embellished with gold paint.
Very little information has been found on the Anger Baking Co. other that is was a family-run company headquartered in New York City. Founded in 1850 and went into bankruptcy in 1914.
The back of the plate color is a gold-ish yellow and has the Vienna Art Plates stamp in the center. Inside the stamp is also the patent date: "Feb. 21st, 1905". The plate is in good overall condition, though there are some scratches. The plate measures 10 1/8" in diameter.
