This carving came from an estate about 15 years ago in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in the area of Cranbrook School of Art. The previous owners were avid folk art collectors, and I know the buzz outside the estate sale opening was that several of their pieces had been featured in folk art books. When the sale opened, my wife and I rushed in with the other 30 people in line, and people were grabbing several high ticketed ($5000 plus) pieces. I found this little guy tucked away... and bought him for a more reasonable sum. I think he is wonderful even though it looks like his face has a bit of old water damage. He is pretty good size, measuring roughly 9" x 6" x 7" tall. He opens up to reveal a crude box. I do not know what kind of wood it is....it is fairly soft though. I do not see a signature. It will be double boxed for careful delivery as I would not want anything to break his legs.
