Vintage Full-size BlondeMahogany Utility Head Board
Cool, vintage, full-size, utility bed frame salvaged from Northeastern Pennsylvania.It has a solid wooden core covered with 1/32" thickmahogany veneers. Please don't mistake theseveneers with the less-than-paper-thin veneers popularized by "Ikea" and othercontemporary furniture manufacturers. These veneers not only contribute to theaesthetics of the piece, they also add strength and stability like ven...eers havebeen doing for thousands of years. The piece was made sometimeduring the 1950's or 60's. It has a"pickled, " "white-washed, " or "blonde" finish, which was popular around themiddle of the previous century. It's finish is patchy; some spots are morewhitish-green and other spots yellowish-brown. I come across many pieces withthe same blonde finish, and I notice this same patchy patina on them as well. The piece has 3 compartments for storing books, eye glasses, cups, etc. There is a groove in front of the compartments that Ibelieve is a track for 2 sliding doors. If the piece originally came with doors, the guy we got it from didn't have them.Our carpenter thoroughly inspected the piece andfound no repairs to make. The joints are tight and there are no structural issues to address. Overall, this piece is in great, structural condition, and only has the typical nicks, chips, scratches, and spots of worn finish that you would expect to find on an old, used piece offurniture. There was a small break at the bottom of the left leg (see lastphoto), but it has been repaired and the previously broken area is tight andstrong. There are also 2 circular stains on the right side of the top, which wascaused by someone not using a coaster for his/her drink. Otherwise, the piece is strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service.
