We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currentlylisted along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes andother very nice antique and vintage collectibles. Be sure to have a lookat our other items! This is a very nice find of a rare mechanical torsion anniversary clock that was created about 60 years ago in the Black Forest of what was then, St Georgen, "West Germany" by "Kieninger und Obergfell" and marketed under their fine line of "Kundo" cloc...ks. I remember my father brought home an anniversary clock very similar to this one years ago, right after WWII. I used to watch itrotate back and forth and was always fascinated to see it in action. And I always got the privilege of winding the clock every year which made it even more special. This clock reminds me so much of those daysand it’s of the highest quality as well. The clock case is made of brass metal and at one time, had a glass dome to cover the clock; no longer. The base has a nice patina going for it though the outer edge shows wear and some cracks. There are two very fancy, embossed brass pillarssupporting the clock mechanism and each has a fancy brass finial on the top. The top of the dial has a shiny brasstonemetal crown with three more fancy brass tapered finials on the top. There is a four ball brass metal pendulum present too that is suspended from themovement by a thin, intact wire. The dial is square, not round like others. It has a fancy embossed brass bezel surrounding it and a very fancy silvertone backdrop. The dial chapter features easy to read numerals at each hour mark and fancy matching metal hands to point out the time. The hands are the old style that are pinned to the escapement and not held on with a nut. metal. The phrase, "Made in Germany" appears in small block letters at the base of the dial. The clock is mechanical and is fitted with a key wind, mechanical movement that lasts for about a year on a single wind and explainsin part why it’s referred to as an anniversary clock. The back is embossed with the Kieninger und Obergfell name and their familiar logo along with the point of origin, "West Germany." I set the clock up, attached the four ball brass pendulum, leveled it, wound it a few times and gave the pendulum a push. It took right off and worked for a half hour or so before stopping. I tried a time or two more and it worked for nearly an hour and kept good time too but eventually stopped. It probably needs to be serviced but I simply don't have the time to work on the old clocks like I used to. Keep in mind that even though it looks newer, it is an old clock and as such will require adjustments or service once it arrivesat its new home. We always advise our customers to service their old clocks at least once everythree years just as the factory would have advised you back in the day. Doing so after it's repaired will preserve this beautiful old clock and keep it healthy for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with the four ball brass pendulum and the winding key. I’ve looked the clock over fairly well and besides what I've already mentioned, find only average wear and a few scratches. It is absolutely gorgeous on display! The clock is an impressive size too measuring about 10" or so high and about 8" acrossthe base. This clock would be the focalpoint in any collection and is certain to impress anyone seeing it in yourhome, office or wherever it is that you care to showcase a magnificent mechanical Germantimepiece with a solid history behind it. Have it repaired, repair it yourself, or leave it the way it is.
