This is a very nice example of an U.S. Civil War Cavalry Saber Sword, Model 1860. It is mounted with a blade that measures 34 7/8 inches in length which has survived in superb condition with only some minor surface blemishes and is well marked "C. ROBY W. CHELMSFORD, MASS." on one side and is dated "U.S. 1864 A.G.M." on the other side. The brass guard also remains very nice in its condition with a deep rich aged patina now developed. The original leather wrapped hilt remains healthy as... well with minimal wear to the leather and the twisted wire wrap is securely in place. The metal scabbard has also richly aged patined and remains in near perfect condition with only a couple of small dings. Overall measuring 42 3/4 inches in length.
