Early, Authentic, Ornate Personal Traveling Brass Candle Lamp, Lantern, or Candle Holder. Dates to the 1700's. Was made to be placed on a table or desk, and is also portable as one can easily carry it by its Double twisted handle. When not in use, or to travel with = lamp closes up and the ornate tiered telescoping pierced top sections can be pushed down, or pulled up depending on the amount of light needed. Could also be a Sailors Lantern, Candle holder. Lamp has ornate Piercework alo...ng the bottom, along the top, and on each Tier. It can be fully extended by pulling up both tiers on top for additional light, or 1 tier can be extended for less light. An unusual, yet ingenious design. Clearly made by a master craftsman of the time.I do believe its an American piece, but not certain. The extended tiers with Piercework on top always reminded me of the piercework and additional top sections of larger lamps that were made by Paul Revere and were used during the Revolution. These lamps now hang in Faneuil Hall in Boston. Please note: I'm not saying this was made by him = however whomever did make this piece was very skilled. I've owned it for many years, its very different, I've never seen another like it = if anyone wants to add anything, comment, feel free to message me. I do not see any signatures or marks, yet the work was and design is very specific. Measurements; with both Tiers extended = 8 1/4" inches Tall. When the top tiers are collapsed 6 1/2" inches Tall. Bottom measures 2 7/8" across. When front 'doors' are open = Approximately 8 1/4" inches across. At over 200 years old, Very good used Antique condition. Ive never made any attempt to clean it.
