A rare antique silk woven Spitalfields shawl or stole. It is from the Regency/Georgian period and dates from 1805-1815.It is a lovely colour a sort of duck egg blue and the floral design is black and white.Including the fringing it is 98 inches long (249 cm) and 27.1/4 inches wide (69 cm).It could still be worn or us...ed for display or study.CONDITION.The condition is quite good for a textile that is over 200 years old. There are no holes or tears. There is some slight darkening along the fold lines. There are small faint marks and also some stains. As some of the marks are very pale, they are not easy to see and the camera has not managed to capture them. The stains are visible in the photos.I have included photos of both halves of the shawl so you can see the overall condition. Perhaps the marks and stains will come out with with specialist cleaning? I have not tried to clean it myself. As it is made of silk, I did wonder if it can be washed, which presumably they were, when they were originally made? I don’t know if the dyes are fast or if the colours would run and as it is an antique textile I wouldn’t do this myself in any case without expert advice.
