BEATLES Meet The Beatles BLACK CAPITOL RECORD CLUB LP W/RARE Record Club Insert
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:16564151 | Artist: The Beatles |
Record Label: Capitol | Duration: LP |
Cover---Far better than most Record Clubcovers, as they tended to be constructed of cheap, over-recycled cardboard thatwas susceptible to splitting if you breathed at them. All of the seams are still nicely intact, however, the slicks on all the seams are showing signs of fraying andcracking. Take good care of thiscover. Front cover is very clean, withthe exception of a light line betwe...en John and George. You’ll see it when you get it. Back cover has light to moderate dirtwear, very slight ringwear and outdent at the top.Top frontleft has the Record Club’s three horizontal black bars. Top right back cover and spine have theRecord Club catalogue number with the 8 inserted, “ST-8-2047.” RIAA number is the correct 16 for Record Clubcovers. Bottom back cover disclaimerdoesn’t mention the various pressing plants as regular issues did, but givesthe Hollywood and Vine Streets location. Also specific to Record Club issues.Record Club Insert---Desperately rare insert, which is theone that featured “Meet the Beatles” for that one month only by the Record Club. The inside left panel erroneously confusesJohn for George, and vice versa. This appearsto be an early insert from 1964 for that reason, but also because the headlineon that same page refers to Beatlemania as having taken hold during theirprevious year. The insertis in good condition, not great. Theinsert has quadrant creases from having been folded and stored inside this copyfor probably decades. The inside spreadhas small pieces of masking tape at the top and bottom. However, there are no splits, tears, fraying, writing, dirt or any other obstructions to the condition of this insert. Regardless, this is a very difficult piece ofBeatlemania that was long-forgotten about, and most likely trashed upon theirinitial arrivals to their recipients. SPECIFIC ONLY TO THE RECORD CLUB FOR ONE MONTH IN 1964.Vinyl---Both sides have dulled a little fromthe decades. There are a few lightscratches to each side, but there is still plenty of virgin gloss. There is a small chip taken out of thelead-in lip on side 1. The surroundinglip did not sustain any cracks because of it. The chip does NOT intrude into the playing surface (see photo), but itdoes traverse the lead-in groove for one rotation. The chip does not transfer to the side 2 lipat all. Manually place your stylus onthe lead-in lip after the chip, or your stylus will throw you SUCH a dirtylook. A good cleaning of the vinyl maybe in order.Labels---Both sides feature the Record Club cataloguenumbers, as well as the Hollywood and Vine Streets disclaimer at the bottom ofthe labels, where we are used to seeing the small white Capitol logo at the 6o’clock position. If youplan to bid, please read this first…For thesecond time in two weeks, I’ve had a very high bid cancelled on my auctions. Athird buyer who won her auction told me she was going to withhold payment fortwo days while she decided whether she wanted the LP. All of these LP’s were in the triple digits. As these records have been in storage formany years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a goodmoisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine alwaysclears them up.
