Vintage Japan 1960s Chicago Cubs gold base nodder. 7" tall. Small blemish on cheek and wear to uniform decal as shown but otherwise excellent; there is a small glob of white paint on shoulder that looks to be run-off from production; there does not seem to be any aftermarket cosmetic work or repairs to this beautiful original vintage souvenir.
PROVENANCE: This auction features items exclusively from the collection of Robert A. Shapiro, a Washington, D.C. resident and governmen...t official whose Chicago Cubs memorabilia collection was widely considered one of the finest in the country (Wolfe, 25). Shapiro was former chair of the Emil Verban Memorial Society, the invite-only Chicago Cubs fan club of Washington, D.C. that has counted presidents and Supreme Court justices among its members. He was closely acquainted with several of the Cubs “greats" from the 60s and 70s, and his collection includes personal letters and items gifted by the likes of Ernie Banks and Billy Williams (Hall of Fame ’77 and ’81, respectively). We will be listing over a thousand pieces of vintage sports memorabilia from this extraordinary collection in the coming months, including but not limited to: game worn uniforms, signed balls and signed bats; original photographs, antique pennants, vintage pins; Wrigley Field signage, stadium seats, and stadium flown flags; and of course, Cubs World Series Souvenirs from all 11 of their appearances from 1906 to 2016.
