STERLING 39 " MODEL BOAT - 63 ' CHRIS CRAFT MOTOR YACHT 1950S VINTAGE - TWIN MOTOR
Item History & Price
I built and sailed this model in the late 1950s and have been storing it ever since I joined the CIA and moved to far away places. I promised myself that I'd make it seaworthy again, but my eyesight is failing and so I'm forced to part with it. I couldn't bear to throw it out in the trash and so I'm offering it for sale at a minimal price in hopes someone will buy i...t and restore it to its formal glory.
The model is complete and still in good condition given its age of 60-plus years. Some of the small metal fittings are loose. I have most of them, but a few may be missing. The curved transom is loose on one side and the stern plate is also loose. The railings have been removed and will need to be replaced.
The twin motors were installed and reverse-geared to drive a single propeller shaft. The motors ar in near perfect condition, but they're 1950 models and not as efficient as modern versions. The rudder controls are also 1950s vintage and will have to be updated if the boat is to have RC control.
The original plans for the construction of the kit are included with this purchase and can be used to guide the repair or replacement of any part of the model.
Please check the pictures carefully to see exactly what you'll be getting. This model boat is sold in as is condition. There is a full unassembled kit of this Sterling model now on sale on Ebay for over $700. Bidding for this one starts at one tenth that price and, with one tenth the labor of building a full kit, this model could be restored to perfect display condition.
With a good cushion of bubble wrap and a sturdy box, I believe the model can be shipped anywhere in the country. I won't offer international shipping due to cost and risk of damage in shipping. Weight is about 18 pounds
