British pop artist Richard Hamilton, in consultation with Paul McCartney, came up with the concept of a plain white gatefold cover with “The Beatles” embossed on the front to “make it look like a limited edition.” This two LP set is now famously known as The White Album and was the first release on The Beatles’ own Apple label. Although, their best-selling album after Sgt Peppers it is the unique numbering system that ensures the album will remain collectable.
