Item History & Price
DIMENSIONS:24" Full height (Including harp & finial) 17" Height (w/o harp & finial) 5 ½" Width (body)
CONDITION:Excellent overall vintage condition. It comes with its original... brass harp (sporting aged patina) with the particular loop, we're familiar seeing with Gordon & Jane Martz's period Modernist ceramic table lamps. It boasts a clean, beautiful ascending turned teak central stem and the signature turned teak knob finial with metal threaded core, that's a hallmark of Gordon & Jane Martz's lighting works. The piece is free from fractures, hairline cracks, noticeable scuffs and significant abrasions. What is present, right over the 'Martz' signature in cursive writing (another hallmark of all Martz original table lamps) is a disturbance in either the wheel turning of the ceramic body of the work, or during the hand-decorated glazed surface. There's a very slight rupture or disturbance in the surface and the matte glaze seems to have picked this up and gathered and fallen away from this small area. It measures about 2 inches in length and would be considered a production anomaly. It did not occur after the vessel was fabricated and is not 'damage.' These slight imperfections we also often see in Italian Modernist works of ceramic art, where at times, glaze drips, splatters or is applied unevenly. To the artist at least, this only contributed to the plastic and overall viscous, tactile nature of their artistic endeavor. The episode is minor and on the back, lower side of the table lamp near the electrical cable port outlet (drilled hole in the side of the ceramic sidewall of the lamp's base, that allows the electrical wiring to pass through.) The bottom of the ceramic vessel is covered with brown period felt and there is a period decal (with the Marshall Studios, Inc., Veedersburg, Indiana) maker's mark affixed to the felt. Really wonderful all around vintage condition and complete, with all individual component parts present. Outstanding and extremely beautiful. An original, authentic, signed Gordon & Jane Martz piece of period American Modernist lighting. Excellent.
