It is a photo of the interior of a cast iron stove and furnace store. A gentleman poses, most likely the proprietor. There is a sign hanging at the right marked Peninsular Furnaces, Stoves, just above an ornate cast iron range and to the right is an ornate cast iron wood burning stove. The Peninsular Stove Company was founded by James Dwyer in 1881 in Detroit. There were many stove manufacturing companies in Detroit employing 7, 500 people. Unfortunately, there no identifying marks as to the location of the store. The postcard is a brown color with a gold tone and has good contrast. The photo is in very good condition with slightly bumped corner tips, the upper left a little more so. There is a little wear at some of the edges. If you turn the postcard to catch glare, you see a handful of tiny and very narrow marks that look like small spatters. This means the area is just a little bit matte, not as shiny as the rest of the surface. This can only be seen with glare. It is not really worth mentioning, but we prefer not to omit. The back has a darken stain that does not show up on front. The postcard is 5 3/8 by 3 3/8 inches and we estimate this to be from 1910 or so, give or take a couple short years. What a nice photo of the inside of a cast iron stove shop! Our reserve is the opening bid. The red watermarks do NOT appear on the actual photo.PLEASE NOTE: We pack with great care using heavy cardboard. If you are aninternational buyer, please email to inquire regarding shippingrates.
