LARGE ANTIQUE NAVAJO Native American Indian Rug - TRANSITIONAL CHURRO BLANKET
Item History & Price
Here is a VERY OLD NAVAJO TRANSITIONAL BLANKET FROM ABOUT 1890 (1880-1900), HAND WOVEN WITH HAND SPUN HAND CARDED AND HAND DYED CHURRO SHEEP WOOLS. This weaving has great looking and classic transitional pattern, there are lazy lines and areas of wool variegation (due to hand carded wools) incorporated through this weaving!
The size of this textile is BIG and approximately 75"x56", with hand spun/carded wool warp of about 5, and a hand spun/carded Wool Weft of about 10 (very thick and durable hand carded warp and weft), A beautifully designed and well constructed piece of Native America! Good for age-some wear/tear (please see all pics): No bug or moth damage, the wools within this rug are in great condition and display beautifully (still have plenty of luster and sheen), see close up pics! There is No notable fading, No notable bleeding (very slight/limited), no notable stains (a few light small stains and one light large one) It is on one side only. There are 5 or 6 small frays and 3-4 small holes - but nothing that detracts from overall presentation of the weaving. The side selvage cords are 90% intact/present with some minor areas of loss and breaks to side selvage - a twist of two, 2-ply churro white wool yarns. The corners are in good overall condition with some wear/fraying, and the corner ties are mostly gone due to time/use.
Be sure to review all pics, this is a 100 plus year old weaving and has some wear/tear but looks vibrant and stunning for an old-timer.
