This old Navaho Indian rug/weaving measures approximately 77" x 44" and features a central stylized whirling log and 28 floating diamonds. The ground is a beautifully variegated gray. Hand spun wool.
FAIR condition. The perimeter is 88% intact with roughly 30" of broken or missing edge cord. All corner tassels are present. Some areas along the perimeter have been reinforced with yarn. In addition there are 8 small holes in the brown border. ...Note also the following condition issues: 1. There is a 1" slit in weft selvage (see photo #8). 2. There are some early repairs, mostly in the light brown yarns (check photos). 3. There are several breaks in the warp and weft.This Navajo weaving has not been cleaned and needs a good bath at some point. Both sides are pictured.
Lazy lines throughout. c. 1st quarter of the 20th Century. 6' 5" x 3' 8". Despite several condition issues this weaving has an interesting design and a great look. It displays beautifully "as is". And, I recommend a good cleaning and placement in your home or office "as is". It presents an intriguing and authentic look at an early Navajo textile. Best yet it is offered here with NO reserve.
