Lovely authentic Raven, baby raven and Salmon plaque carved and painted in pine by First nations artist George Matilpi.
It measures 12" in height, 5 1/2" in width and 3/4" thick .. Such a unique deeply carved piece of art... a wonderful addition to any art collection. Traditional colors of black, green, and deep red.
George Matilpi was born in Alert Bay, B.C., and is a member of the Carrier N...ation. He has been carving for about twenty years. Taught by Amos Dawson, Chief of the Carrier Nation, George Matilpi carves exceptional and traditional Kwakiutl wood plaques. He employs the traditional black, red, and turquoise or green color scheme on unstained cedar wood. Within this traditional framework, Matilpi creates innovative and charismatic animal plaques with personality.In addition to practicing his art, Matilpi is helping to insure its continuation by teaching young carvers in Vancouver, B.C. and Seattle.
