Antique Amulet-Pendant Large Fish Embossed Silver 835 /Balaganda from Brazil Stunning hand carved and embossed fish pendant/amulet from San Salvador – Bahia- Brazil. Probably part of the Balaganda Brazilian amulets. Mixture of embossing and engraving, this fish stands 2 ¾” tall and 5 “ long. Weighs 33.6 grams. Stamped in the fin and in the bale “ Prata 835 which means silver 835 purity. The fish is articulated and can be self-standing. In excellent condition, a...ll original pieces and no damages noted. Balagandas were a collection of different ornaments, fruits, amulets, body parts made in silver or gold and strung in a metal ring to be worn around the waist or neck by the women slaves in Brazil in the late 18thcentury.
