TY COBBThisextraordinary Ty Cobb decal bat, manufactured by Louisville Slugger, J. F. Hillerich & Son Co., is one of theearliest Ty Cobb bats made. This bat is from the 1911-1916 labeling period. Thebat displays a "dash-dot-dash" pattern “Made By” within the J. F.Hillerich & Son Co. center brand label and features a decal image of Cobbon the barrel. The colorful decal design incorporates both Cobb's portraitimage and his facsimile signature and is far more visually ap...pealing than alater-era traditional signature-model Cobb bat. The decal and bat has been restored by Vintage Sports Restoration, by anauthorized person endorsed by Louisville Slugger.Thecompany stampings within the center brand are those of a Ty Cobb bat, with thesmaller of two "dash-dot-dash" symbols appearing below " J. F.Hillerich & Son Co, " and “Made By” as opposed to "40 TC" asfound on later decal bats. Its length is (33 inches) and weighs 40 ounces.Ido not believe this to be game used, or a professional model bat, however I donot know enough about the bat. There is no doubt that professionals used decalbats during games, and that many were used by a number of Major League playersduring the dead-ball era, though it is also the case that this practice waslimited to only a very few players who were under contract and whose imageswere used on decal bats such as Ty Cobb.Cobbwon five batting crowns, hit over .400 twice, led the league in hits three timesand won an MVP Award during his Hall of Fame career.Nocracks or breaks. Bat was used, as ball marks are present along with cleat imprints.Thesebats are rare and getting hard to find, even with the technology of theinternet.
