Authentic 2002 Ohio State Gold Pants - Matt Russell / Mike Roberts OSU Buckeyes

These pants are INCREDIBLY SIGNIFICANT for a multitude of reasons: * First and foremost, the Buckeyes went on to WIN THE 2002-2003 National Championship.
* The pants symbolize a OSU victory over arch rivals, Michigan, which arguably is the greatest rivalry in College Football and some say all of sports.Pants have the initials of the players they are awarded to by the Club on the knees. This pair sports an M & R. There were two players on th...e 2002 OSU team who could have originally owned these pants: PK Matt Russell (jersey # 19) and CB Mike Roberts (jersey # 24).
The less than ideals are: minimal. This charm is absolutely Near Mint. I never give Mint designations unless graded by a 3rd party. I'm sure with a magnifying glass, etc flaw can be seen but to the naked eye these pants are in fantastic condition. These pants are a historical gem!!! Please see pix.History of the Gold Pants Club:
According to the story shared in a program from on Pants Club dinner celebration: "Once upon a time there was a big, tall football coach who talked with a pleasing drawl. He walked fearlessly and bravely into a certain place where boys hadn't been doing so good, particularly against a certain party. Someone asked him about that party and what was his attitude toward them. "Wel, " he drawled, "they put on their pants one leg at a time, same as anybody else." Well sir, by the time he got throw with them, they didn't have a leg to stand on, much less to put pants on.For four years he gave 'em the works to the tune of 34 to 0 in 1934, 38 to 0 in 1935, 21 to 0 in 1936, with the same score in 1937.His name was Francis Schmidt and he came to us from down Texas way end for quite a spell his razzle dazzle football and his colorful personality were watchwords in these parts.
Out of his nonchalant attitude and sterling performance against you-know-who developed the idea of immortalizing his now famous saying. That's why, we see in the history that in 1934-35 Charlie Nixon, Ed Kelly and George Trautman were elected president, treasurer and manager of a select society known as "THE PANTS CLUB." Since that time the officers have been reduced to a president who presides, and a manager who manages the meetings. These are supplemented with a board of directors.The object of the club shall be, as stated in its constitution, to foster the most casual type of attitude toward an institution of higher education somewhat north of the ohio line, whose colors shall habitually be, as far as we are concerned, amaized and blue.
It further purpose shall be to demonstrate, with the thoughtful help of the Ohio State University football squads, that the late and immortal Francis Schmidt was right when he said "They put on their pants one leg at a time, same as anybody else."A further statement proclaims that "A gold pair of pants shall be issued to the working members of the club."To these purposes and principles the Pants Club is dedicated."
