I have a Vintage Silver decorative frieze/paper-weight from my father-in-law's Chinese collections. He died over forty years ago and this is one of his collection of several thousand items. It is a beautifully decorated silver casting , showing in relief an intricately carved decorated frieze depicting two of the 8 Chinese ‘IMMORTALS’, creatures and people who rose to heaven and became ‘Gods-Immortals’ that feature in the Taoist religious fables. On this frieze appear LAN CAIHE ...and TIE GUAILI.The reverse of this frieze is stamped 99.9% silver, my pricing seeks a price level for the item’s rarity and artefact attractiveness.NB: This is one of 4 friezes. Each introduces 2 of the 8 Immortals. The Chinese have used Cast silver items as a means to carry stories and myths through the years. Silver does not deteriorate nor lose it’s shape, nor does it break or crack, it’s weight allows it to be used by artists of Chinese calligraphy. The Chinese calligrapher uses a variety of paper weights, long, short, wide. Silver is heavy for its volume and is therefore ideal as a paper weight, and it has the advantage of holding it’s value, and unlike gold is a material that is plentiful. This is a very tactile item, a beautifully carved casting with Chinese calligraphy that describes the 2 featured Immortals. The casting is approx 150mm Long x 47mm wide and 4mm thick and weighs approx 250 grams . Look at the photos.I am asking very little for this casting. Grab an attractive bargain for your display and enjoyment. A beautifully created exclusive one-off piece of Chinese History and artistry. The world wide price of silver is approx £390/KG. Take advantage.
