With one of the most illustrious careers and distinguished records in the history of the professional sport, Gordie began his career at the age of 16 with the Detroit Red Wings, and spent 26 years in the NHL, 25 of those as #9 with the Red Wings. In 1973, Howe made an unprecedemted return to the ice after setting 11 NHL rec...ords in Detroit (including 7 Most Valuable Player award in the NHL and WHA, the All-Time Scoring Record, first 50 year old play major league hockey, etc). Howe came out of retirement to play for the Houston Aeros of the WHA becoming, when sons Mark and Marty also signed with team, the first and only father and sons combination in major professional sport.
