The company has its origin from the companies selling tea in the Nizhny Novgorod and Irbit fairs, founded in 1840 in the province of Perm Kungur Kungur merchant 1st guild AS Gubkin (1816-83). In 1881 the board of the company moved to Moscow in 1884, the grandson and heir of AS Gubkin AG Kuznetsov (1856-95) transformed it into a trading house called the "Successor Gubkin Aleksei Kuznetsov and Co". Until 1899 the partnership owned a large sugar refinery in Sokolniki. In 1895 the company opened and equipped with tea-packing factory in Moscow (Lower Syromyatnicheskaya street, 11), and then in other cities. The main warehouse is located in Moscow, in the middle ranks of the trade. In 1890-ies. the firm moved to direct purchases of tea in its place of production and in the tea market in London. Company Gubkin-Kuznetsova was among the most profitable companies of the Russian Empire.
