April 1965DescriptionRecording of a speech given by Martin Luther King, Jr., during his acceptance of the Pacem in Terris award in Davenport, Iowa, April 1965. The Pacem in Terris Peace and Freedom Award was created in 1964 by the Davenport Catholic Interracial Council of the Dioce...se of Davenport, Iowa. The award was created "to honor a person for their achievements in peace and justice, not onlyin their country but in the world." It has been given annually since 1964 (since 1976, the award has been presented by the QuadCities Pacem in Terris Coalition). King was its second recipient. The 1965 award was presented by Paul D. Moore, Vicar General of Davenport Diocese. Also included in this recording are two additional speeches given by King, probably in conjunction with the Pacem in Terris award ceremony. The first of these may be an invocation at a church service held the morning after the awardceremony. The second was captured at an unidentified afternoon event.VINYL: VG++ Extremely clean and glossy, a few really light marks, this ultra rare record shows up in my hometown ocassionally, but never in this nice condition.Cover: Plain
