The Casio FX-68 calculator, which was a full scientific calculator but only credit card, or national park senior pass size, and dates from approximately 1979, when it still seemed like a good idea to do something like this. Hey, I bought one. After you had used it for a little while, you realized that what you really wanted was a calculator with human-sized buttons, where when you pushed a button, you only pushed one button at a time. But boy, it sure seemed cool way ...back when.
This FX-68 is in excellent condition and works fine. I did notice that it will intermittently shut off if you squeeze the case in the wrong place. The plastic wallet is also in good shape, but the plastic is definitely harder and more brittle than when new, and there are a few cracks in the hinge, which I wouldn’t expect to last much longer.
This calculator is from the collection of Robert K. (“Bob”) Otnes, PhD, one of the founding members of the Oughtred Society and the original editor of the Journal of the Oughtred Society. It is being sold by the Oughtred Society on his behalf.
