Here we have beauti...ful pairs of new in box super strong RCA 46s distributed by Crosley Radio company with MATCHING CODES from June 1946. We bought the entire lot of inventory from a retired radio/TV shop that was in upstate NY directly so we know the pedigree of these tubes. Note the quality of these, glass is perfect, flashing excellent, classic RCA mica and rods are spotless! Boxes for these are in really brittle shape considering they date back to the war era !!! In our opinion, these have never been used.A RARE OPPORTUNITY to acquire a matched pair of these gorgeous NIB tubes. Truly a fantastic find.
ADAPTING 45 AMPLIFIERS:
Take a look at the RCA data sheet in the pictures, these tubes were designed to do this. If your amp has classic 4-pin ceramic sockets, swapping out 5-pin matching sockets is a breeze. Rewire per data sheet. Although you can use these in tetrode push-push pull, you can also use in tetrode/triode switched single-ended mode too. The best way we've heard these is to switch two from push-pull to parallel single ended and tetrode/triode mode for both configurations (use current sources in parafeed triode mode with a P-P tranny). Then you can have everything - then the amp can adjust to all types of music and tastes - FANTASTIC! Be aware the 46 has a quarter amp more filament current so be sure to check your supply. Always power down the amp before switching to be safe. This approach is just like Triode/Pentode switching in pentode amps but for SETs!These outperform any/all 45s IMHO.Set-1. Test values are for the initial pair sold, we will try to update the test data as these are sold - they are extremely similar however.
TESTING: We used our Nelson calibrated TV-7 D/U to test this lot. Test data per the above list. We always use a 5 min warmup time!. This tube type (46) has a minimum of 50 (60% on the TV-7). To test in triode mode as a 45, pins 2 and 4 were shorted per the RCA data sheet.Our NIB Navy Depot reference tube measures NOS at TV-7 93. We cannot guarantee your tester will match our calibrated test system as there are way too many variables in the testing equation. Testers vary WIDELY and can have significant levels of measurement tolerances. No further testing has been done and we do not represent these as satisfactory in your electronics in any way as these are very old vintage tubes.
