1912 Edison Home " D " Cylinder Phonograph W/Original 14 " Horn 2 & 4 Minute
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:17890043 |
Here's a 1912 Edison Home Phonograph with an original 14" brass & black horn, factory combination gearing (plays 2 & 4 minute cylinders), an original Edison 2-minute "C" reproducer, and an original Edison 4-minute "H" reproducer.
The phonograph plays great, needs nothing, and will be ready to enjoy as soon as it arrives.
Bedplate is nearly perfect, with glossy original enamel and excellent original gold detailing along the bedplate's periphery. Corner florets are all present, and they too are nearly perfect. Very little wear to the pinstriping, and the blue accents are still prominent. The Edison signature on the vertical plane of the casting is crisp and clear.
The mechanism is in excellent condition, both above and below the bedplate. The governor assembly is working perfectly, and both reproducers have good stylii and good gaskets. The motor is still robust, and the phonograph can easily make it through several cylinders with a single winding. The crank is original and in excellent condition.
The cabinet overall is in excellent condition, with its original finish still intact, as well as its original cabinet decal. Nice trim and molding everywhere. Lid is solid, with no veneer damage and the original paper label still intact on the interior surface.
There have been two hinge-related repairs/reinforcements made to the back of the cabinet's base (one on the inside, the other on the outside), but they're both solid and easy to overlook unless you're hunting for them (in fact, I'd never noticed either of them until I started photographing the machine for this listing). The exterior repair can be seen in the 10th photograph, just below the left hinge. The interior repair, partly obfuscated by the lift arm, can be seen in the sixth photograph, just below the left hinge.
The original 14" brass and black horn a patent stamp above the seam and is in good condition, with scattered marks and wear consistent with its age an authenticity. The horn paint is original, with a few scuffed areas, but overall the horn is in good shape.
Please look at the pictures and consider them an integral part of the description.
I'll include a 2-minute Edison Gold Moulded record and a 4-minute Edison Blue Amberol cylinderwith it so that you can enjoy the phonograph as soon as it arrives.
I've been selling and shipping antique phonographs, antique radios and antique scientific apparatus for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
If you're bidding from overseas, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote so that I can confirm my ability to export the phonograph to your country. That's about it. I will carefully prep everything for shipping and pack everything carefully and properly. I've been shipping fragile antique phonographs and wireless sets for years, and I know how to get them to you safely. Buyer prepays and includes shipping. Paypal okay.
