Up for auction is this 1899 Cutler-Hammer Mfg Co Early Electric Voltage Regulator Rheostat. This device was used to control the flow of electricity and would be attached to a wall. This was used in a Masonic Lodge in Mound City, Missouri to dim the lights for events such as dances and dinners. This is an amazing piece of early American electrical history. Made of cast iron and copper. Has original brass tag that reads:THE CUTLER-HAMMER MFG. CO.MILWAUKEE, WISVOLTS 220 ... MAX. AMPS. 2.5 6216 C.P.L'TS 10 CAT. NO. 24212SER. NO. 328869 PAT'D. FEB. 27, 1899 Very old and does have some wear from age/use but remains in nice shape. Handle moves freely. One leg is bent slightly and wooden handle is missing. Measures approximately 12 1/2" in diameter (not including handle).Would make for great Steampunk or industrial machine age decor.
