fitted with 2 J34 JET ENGINES AND 2 3, 250 HP WRIGHT 3350-32 PISTON ENGINES. The first Neptunes were accepted into Navy service in 1947 and the last operational P2V 's were retired in 1...970. Surplus Neptunes then began a new life as aerial fire fighting air tankers.This aircraft
was retired from the navy and sent to Davis- Monthan AFB bone yard in Tuscon AZ. This aircraft was never converted to a fire bomber but used for parts for several other Neptunes that were converted to air tankers. I dismantled the aircraft pictured and saved many of the parts. The auction does not include the Neptune wooden model pictured. The out side top ring could use a coat of paint. Actual size of the astrodome is 33 inches diameter including white frame and hinges. 26 inches with white frame , plexiglas bubble is 18 inches in diameter. 11 inches deep. weight is 17 pounds The astrodome plexiglas is in pretty good condition , some scratches but could be polished out further. Original condition as removed from the aircraft in 2005.
