Very Unusual Antique Edwardian Art Nouveau 9ct Gold And Amethyst Necklace
Item History & Price
Very unusual and pretty antique 9ct gold art nouveau pendant and chain. Marked 9ct gold, it is of a design produced by Ward Brothers, a company operating in Edinburgh and Glasgow in the 19th century, before moving to Birmingham's jewellery quarter to increase production. However, this piece does not have their maker's mark stamped on. Ward Brothers were known for producing Scottish designs with brilliantly faceted stones. Latterly, they produced many silver and paste designs and the co...mpany was eventually taken over by Miracle Jewellery.
This piece is circa 1910 and features three small faceted amethysts interspersed with four decorative oval links with a two-leafed foliate design typical of the art nouveau period. Hanging at the end of the chain is a small, decorative gold circle with two styalised leaves as the bale. Inside the circle is a stunning circular amethyst 1 cm in diameter.
Total necklace length 45.7cms /18 ins.
A rare and distinctive piece to add to any collection of fine jewellery.
