Charming antique/vintage French enameled biggin (circa very early 1900s) coffee pot. Enormously popular in their day, the biggin coffee pot was the first "filtered coffee" pot. Ground coffee beans were placed in the top section, white enamel filter lid was placed atop the filter section, and boiling water was poured over the grounds creating a rich hot coffee to be served to family and friends. Includes a small plunger to push on the grounds to push down on the coffee grounds to r...elease all the water in the top section. Often placed on the stove to keep the coffee hot. Maker mark B & W on the bottom; also signed by the artist who painted the flowers. This lovely biggin is enameled in a classic white with blue; pink and green cherry blossom flowers with touches of hand painted gilding on the goose neck spout, handle and body of the coffee pot. Overall has minimal chipping of enamel (see pics); considered to be in excellent condition. Clean interior; no rusting and water tight. Wonderful gloss to the enamel. Measures 9.75 inches tall with a base diameter of 4.5 inches. A lovely piece for your French decor! Shipped within the USA only.
