Measures 10" tall, 12.5" wide and 9.5" deep
Dating from the period of the reign of Napleon III
Made from ebonised wood with rosewood veneered interior ; classic & really lovely serpentine fronted shape ; features matching cartouche decoration to the lid and front, with an elaborate design of inlaid brass and boxwood.
This is a fine quality piece and would have been an expensive item intended for high-class French society.
It has a wood & gilt metal lift out tray for four decanters and up to 16 glasses.
Condition : It is in tidy clean original unrestored antique condition, which could be perfected by someone with a bit of time and expertise. There is a brass lid stay missing ( see close-up photos ... works ok with just the one ), but apart from that it is complete with no missing brass stringing or inlay. There is a bit of ebonised veneer missing to the lid, together with some rubbing to the ebonised finish & a few stress lines and signs of age and use etc, as you would expect.
So, not mint and perfect ~ and, as such, sold as seen ~ but overall I would say it is a very good example, which could certainly be used as it is ... it has even has the original key and working lock.
There are just three of the original 16 glasses present ; there are four decanters ( two different designs ) ... two of which have missing stoppers.
