Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:18272339 | Modified Item: No |
Brand: R & E | Country/Region of Manufacture: United States |
Offered here is an unusual antique Russell & Erwin cast iron #2 gem pan for making biscuits, scones, muffins or cupcakes. It is clearly marked 'R & E Mfg Co' on one handle and barely visible 'Patent April 6, 1850' on the other handle. The number 2 is embossed on the backside of one of the handles. There is no rust that I can see. My husband cleaned, oiled and oven seasoned this pan.
Measurements are about 13" long x 8-3/4" wide x about 3/4" height. Weight is 4 pounds 3 ounces. The 11 gem molds have a 3" inside diameter. The vintage condition is very good as there are no cracks, breaks or repairs and it is not warped. As can be seen in the photos, there is surface wear and edge damage to one of the handles. What looks like edge wear on some of the side cups resulted during their manufacture. Purchased at a local auction, the consignor noted that there was the same pan exhibited at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
The following information was found online: “…Dave Smith's Kettles 'N Cookware newsletter from Sept.-Oct. 2000 for his article on Waterman and R&E pans. R&E, he says was a manufacturer in New Britain, Conn.” Thanks for looking. Please email me if you have any questions!PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR THE SHIPPING COSTS OUTSIDE OF U.S.A.
