Fantastic antiqueChinese blue and white porcelain deep bowl.Circa Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).This is a provincialplate with simple design hand painted on the inside and one the outside. Beautiful clear glazecovers the blue pigment design. Some crackle inside the glaze.The bowl was a riversalvaged bowl from the bottom of the Chaophaya River in Thailand. The bowl had been in thewater for hundreds of years and has lost some of its glaze and has hairlines inseveral places. These faults were ...accumulated from age and damage from theriver.There is a small repairon the rim. Please refer to photographs.Utensils like this bowlwere used as ballast when China traded with Siam in the past. Shipwreckhappened and beautiful porcelain pieces ended up in the water.There is sand stuck onthe bottom of the bowl.I bought this bowl inThailand when I was living there in the 1970s. I saw divers wore antiquateddiving helmets dived in the river at Ayutheya to retrieve the bowl.For a 600 years bowl thecondition is pretty good.Diameter: 24.5 cmHeight: 5.5. cmWeight: 556 gramsThe battery is there forsize comparison only.
