This is a beautiful small vintage wooden chest with two drawers made from cigar boxes. Dark stained wood chest is a beautiful example of folk art and/or tramp art done in a primitive style. Excellent crafted. Measures just under 9 1/2 inches tall to top of rounded tip, is 5 inches wide, and is 3 1/2 inches deep. Various labels are visible on different parts of the chest. When drawers are removed, interior wooden back of chest has the red and gold label of N.N. Smith Co. along the botto...m edge and even better, the back itself is stamped so you can just make out the "N.N. Smith / Frankfort / Factory No." and other printed information beneath. Can't make out the entire factory no. but it begins with "18." Interior underside of top also has a factory number for another company (looks like 444) and other stamped information and label remnants. Even the exterior side of the chest has a stamped seal at top rounded rim area but can't make it out under the aged stain. Chest has two little drawers; both are lined with perhaps material from an old window shade? Drawers also have two knobs each. This chest is beautifully constructed; tiny nails to hold together and is sturdy and is not at all wobbly. Solid. Stain has a wonderful darkened, aged, warm patina. It is clean and odor-free. Has no splintery edges or areas and absolutely no rot. Has no hole for hanging so I assume this either sits on a table top for some sort of storage? Or perhaps made for a child for use with a doll? This piece is charming and has quite a history. It is in excellent vintage condition. Thanks for looking.Now for the fine print……..
