They are transported to thewater’s edge in motorized columns and are usually made of sheet metal (sheetsteel). No. 85: MotorizedColu...mns. In future wars in Western and Central Europe all supplies and troopwill move quickly by motorized columns traveling over an extensive network ofwell-built roads. No. 91: The Supply Train. On the poor roads andsandy ways of Eastern Europe the horse-drawn wagons with supplies for thetroops are always a welcome sight. No.97: The Command Wagon. In order to provide the army'scommanders with a mobile command center buses were converted to moveableheadquarters in the field. They are connected by telephone with mainheadquarters and have the necessary maps and other materials with them fortheir quadrant. No. 103: Mobile Radio Station. The HighCommand is equipped with a powerful and heavy radio unit that can betransported by motorized vehicle or by horses, while lower level commanders inthe field have portable radios that can be carried by a man. Raising an antennamast can be done rather quickly. No.124: Boxing. This form of fighting is very useful in themilitary for it helps the soldier to be able to fight in the tightestcircumstances and require of him courage and quickness. For training they use12-ounce padded gloves and for competitive fights they use 8-ounce gloves andsoft wrappings. No. 130: SergeantHirschfeld Throwing the Shot. Up to the start of the 1932 Olympics the worldrecord shot put of 16.04 meters was held by Sergeant Hirschfeld, who has sinceretired from the army. No. 147: Knowledgeable Observers.Veterans of the World War and of the time before the war often watch themilitary exercises of the new Reichswehr and are very open about expressingtheir opinion on what they see. No. 168:Messenger Pigeons. These birds can deliver messages from the front to theirhome cages situated near the main headquarters. They are transported in basketsto the front, where messages are rolled up, wrapped in a cover and attached totheir leg. No. 174: The New Uniform.Since July 1, 1933 the German Army has a new uniform. The new shirt has twobreast- and side-pockets, as well as a collar with an additional buttoned pieceto close the collar entirely. No.183: The Veterinary Officer. These officers are responsiblefor the health and well-being of the horses, paying special attention to thecondition of their hooves and to the quality of their feed. No. 188: In the Base Hospital. Modern medical facilities are important forthe functioning of the army. And equally important are the caring nurses whosee after the sick soldiers. No.191: At the Anvil. For many of the technical jobs in thearmy (Pioneers, Drivers, Radio Crew) there are special training schools. Thesame is true for the trades, such as blacksmiths, as seen in the picture, whichcan serve them in civilian life later on. No. 225: French Reserves. The millions of reserve troops in the countriessurrounding us have no equivalent in Germany. Since they are not counted towardthe strength of the standing army, this system has Germany at a disadvantage. No. 231: Military Training for Women.Outside of Germany young women are also trained at school to defend theircountry. They are primarily trained to help in the event of a gas attack andother medical skills, but some are also trained to use guns.On the back of each cardat the bottom are directions on how people collecting these pictures in the1930s could get the album for the pictures. The cards from the Waldorf-AstoriaCo. read: "You can get the album for 1 Reichsmark at any cigarette storeor by paying this amount to the following Post Office checking account: Munich1979."
