UNUSUAL ANTIQUE 19thC FRENCH GILT BRONZED STATUE "The Shepherdess" JAMES PRADIER ... Click images to enlarge Description A FINE FRENCH ANTIQUE 19th CENTURY GILT BRONZED & PORCELAIN STATUE ENTITLED " THE SHEPHERDESS " by JAMES PRADIER
A good substantial size, measuring 17" tall and 6" wide ( max ), and weighing 4.6 kilograms unpacked.
Made from a gilt bronzed effect metal, strikingly contrasted with the white bisque porcelain face and hands of the hooded young girl shepherdess.
This very unusual and distinctive statue was modelled by the famous French Neo-Classical sculptor JAMES PRADIER ( 1790-1852 )
From my bit of research, I have not been able to find another example and this would seem to be quite a rare piece.
It is in very good original condition, with no damages ; little bit of rubbing here and there to the gilt finish, as you would expect.
Very low start for such a rare and visually striking statue.
