I have a series of 7 paintings of the same size that are identicallyframed that I bought at a very high-end estate sale. Outside measurement of each of the frames is4.75 inches (12 cm) by 3.5 inches (8.5 cm). Delicate pith paintings by local Chinese artists were purchasedand collected by Western travelers and merchants starting about 1825. Paintings on pith were produced in portcities to meet the Western demand for local Chinese art. The p...aintings typically depicted attractivelocal trades, customs and costumes. The painting style combines a traditionalChinese approach of flattened sweeps of color with aspects of Western influencein detail and realism.I would say all seven of the images are in very good conditionif not excellent condition considering their age. While there is some slight discoloration inthe paper in places, there are no tears or holes whatsoever and the colors arestill vibrant and the images are fabulous with intricate detail.
