The US Army saw the success of German mountain troops in Norway, and quickly created its own elite mountain unit, the 10th Mountain Division. Elements of the 10th were the only US units deployed to both the Pacific and the ETO in WW2. After landing on Kiska only to find the Japanese gone, they shipped out for Italy, and drove the Germans from their vaunted "Gothic" line in early 1945. Special uniforms were developed to outfit the "mountain men" of the 10th, as well as the combined ...US/Canadian special mountain infantry known as the First Special Service Force. This included a pair of cotton ski pants with a two button front waist closure, zippered fly, and elasticized ankle stirrups. This pair of US Army WW2 10TH MOUNTAIN FSSF COTTON SKI PANTS are in excellent condition, with several scattered cutter's tag staples still present at the upper front and back, some brownish soiling around the interior waist, some reddish brown soiling at the left seat, a fairly long "r" shaped line of whitish soiling at the middle seat, some light overall wrinkling and spot soiling, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pants are in excellent shape, with no other damage to the crisp khaki/OD 100% cotton construction. Most interestingly, they boast a fully intact two button front waist closure, sport a fully functional "TALON" metal fly zipper, and are dated "Nov. 5, 1942" on the original nomenclature tag inside. They measure to a Size 28 Waist x 33 1/2 Inseam, feature brass zippered front hip pockets, dual exposed button flap closure large pleated cargo thigh pockets, single exposed button flap closure seat pockets, the classic long "tunnel" middle back belt loop, interior suspender buttons, and all of the original khaki/OD plastic buttons throughout, and are complete with both fully intact elasticized black web ankle stirrups.
