Vintage c. 1890s W. Bock (Bock's) guitar zither (so-called because it has a fretboard like a guitar), made in Nurnberg, Germany. This 19th century relic is an amazing decorative item / conversation piece, or a wonderful project for restoration. Included is the original heavy wooden case, which is very rare to find - most such zithers have long since lost theirs.
The zither has several cracks, loose seams, some missing and loose binding, surface rust on the metal parts and ...typical wear, dings and scratches due to age. All the original parts are there. The case is worn and missing its interior lining and hardware (lock, handle, latches), but it is otherwise very solid as well.
Please note that while the zither appears dusty in some of the pictures, I have since hand-cleaned it gently. This is reflected in the first three pics, which show the zither with the case - both now nice and clean and ready for either display or restoration.
