1960s VINTAGEVinyl Change Purses - LenticularJapan AnimeThisauction is for two vinyl change purses – unsure of who this super hero is –looks a little like Prince Planet. Both are new, unused with no splits or tears(photos show a glare from the flash – purses are mint). Both have flicker or lenticular graphics thattoggle back and forth showing an action scene. Both have original manufacturerstickers on back. See photos for details. I am selling off some of my privatecollecti...on of Prince Planet collectibles, I’ve amassed over the past 50 years!This is probably the largest Prince Planet (a.k.a. Yusei Shonen Papi)collection ever sold on ebay. Prince Planet, although shown on Saturdaymornings in the US, its toys/items were only made and sold in Japan and really, only during its limited (1965-66 52 episode) anime run in the mid-1960s.Extremely difficult collection to amass – even on ebay! Many years ofinternational travel and poking around in flea markets and estate sales (andthe occasional eBay find) have allowed me to find such items.Check out my other PRINCE PLANETauctions this week. I will combineshipping costs on multiple wins.The series begins with the Galactic Union of Worlds at ameeting on the planet named Radion where Prince Planet lives. The chief asksthe question ‘Shall we contact Earth and offer them membership'? A delegate ofbeings from a number of worlds including Mars oppose the membership, describinghumans as arrogant, funny-looking, war mongers and not advanced enough, butnevertheless they are given a chance. Prince Planet is a Universal Peace Corpsmember who is chosen from hundreds of volunteers to be sent to Earth to bringlaw and order and a love of peace to Earth so they can become part of theGalactic Union. His assignment ‘To fight evil and cruelty whenever and whereverit affects the planet Earth'. Prince Planet has an IQ of 300 compared withEarth standards. He has been given a concentrated, scientific and moraleducation by electroinductive hypnotraining and is classed as a genius. Throughthe pendant he is given the ability to change into a normal boy and when foundon Earth by a girl named Diana Worthy, he is given the name ‘Bobby’ and liveson a ranch with Diana and her father Pops Worthy. Diana wears a ring which cansignal Prince Planet when she is in danger. The main city is Metropol.
Prince Planet’s pendant receives power (energy)from a nuclear energy centre (energy transmitter) on Radion. When Bobby changesto Prince Planet he calls out Peeeeee Pazow! The operators at the centre oftenforget to charge up his pendant, usually when he is in a fight with an enemyand about to die. But of course the operators remember in the nick of time.Without energy he becomes very weak. The pendant has many uses such as aconverter, weapon, transforming to Bobby and back to Prince Planet, for flying, strength, as a torch etc. In many episodes Bobby looks up at the stars at nightand gets homesick for his mum on Radion. He realises that when he was given theability to live as a normal boy on Earth he also had to accept the emotions anddesires of a normal boy, including homesickness.
In the last episode, Prince Planet has been onEarth for a year and is called back to Radion to make his report to the Councilof the Worlds on a special rocket ship sent for him. On his journey back homehe remembers about his adventures on Earth and thinks about his friends andenemies that he fought throughout the series. He must now convince the Councilof the Galactic Union that the Earth is worthy of membership. He reports thatgood people far outnumber the evil and beauty is much easier to find thanugliness, but whatever happens the Earth is better for his having been there.The closing words of the series - ‘Good bye and Thankyou Prince Planet.
