A really charming antique oil painting of an African Grey Parrot that dates to the 1890-1910 period. A very atmospheric work, such pieces in Victorian Britain being influenced in part by the poet and artist Edward Lear 1812-1888 who loved nothing better than painting and drawing parrots. Age- c1890-1910Medium- Oils on canvasboard panel.Size- 17 by 13 inches approx (430 x 330 mm) including frame, panel 13 by 9 inches approx. Condition- Generally very good for its age though some varnish browning in places. Some thinner paint by design, small paint chip and old repair to the backbround top right.Frame- Period gold coloured frame, some knocks and losses, offered free with the painting. The odd spot of old woodworm to the reverse of the frame. Signature- Unsigned, inscribed to the reverse. Belvoir Fine Art are long established fine art dealers from the East Midlands of England.
