Item History & Price

The wire clasp top/stopper is still intact and the bottle stands 9-5/8 inches tall including the stopper.
There are some bubbles and very nice stretch marks on the neck. See pics.
There are no cracks or chips.
The bottle looks nice overall. It appears cloudy inside but there is condensation inside the bottle. The metal wire holding the top does move but I don't want to force the s...topper out just to air dry the inside better. I believe that it would come out without much trouble but I'd rather not.
This bottle was dug from a privy in Laurel Maryland in 1971.The embossing is an unusual variant on the usual Robert Portner bottle. It is as follows:On front in a round Slug plate:
ROBERT PORTNER
BREW COMP
Inside a single diamond in the center of the slug plate:
TRADE
HYGEIA
MARK
Below diamond in slug plate:
ALEXANDRIA VA.Reverse:

NOT TO
BE SOLDThe user of the word HYGEIA is very unusual as well as calling the Brewing Co "Brew Comp".In Greek as well as Roman mythology, Hygieia (also Hygiea or Hygeia; Ancient Greek: Ὑγιεία or Ὑγεία, Latin: Hygēa or Hygīa), was one of the Aeclepiadae; the sons and daughters of the god of medicine, Asclepius, and the goddess of healing, Epione. She was the goddess/personification of health (Greek: ὑγίεια - hugieia), cleanliness and hygiene.
