Rare Antique Bound Sheet Music VA Civil War Confederate
This is a fantastic piece, in very good condition considering the time. Has the initials M.E. Janney on the cover, and in the book there is an inscription:
"Presented to Miss Anna M. Janney by her cousin Mary E. Gore Leesburg VA August 3rd 1885"
There is a handwritten poem or song written on one of the pages entitled "Nellie Moore"
"In a little white cottageWhere the trees are ever greenAnd a wild rose blossoms at... the doorI have often sat and listened to the music of beforeIn the gentle voice pretty Nellie Moore..."
Includes the rare confederate sheet music "Stonewall Jackson's Way" published by A.E. Blackmar, 167 Canal Street, New Orleans. Lithographed for C.O. Clayton by Endicott & Co N.Y. 1865. Includes a large central portrait illustrative of Stonewall Jackson with confederate "Stars and Bars" flags to the side of his image.
Includes the rare piece "In Memory of the Confederate Dead" composed by Jules C. Meininger published in Louisville, KY by McCarrell & Meininger No 91 West Jefferson St. Lithographed by Bennett, Donaldson, and Elmes 153 W 4th St, Cincinnati, OH. 1866. Features the images of Stonewall Jackson, J.E.B. Stuart, Albert Sidney Johnston, John M. Morgan, Leonidas Polk, A.P. Hill, C.J. Rains and has on either side banners with the names of other men prominent in the war.
Also includes "O I'm a Good Old Rebel" originally a poem attributed to Major James Innes Randolph. There's no publication information on any of the pages or a date. It simply lists the title and then it says, "A Chaunt to the Wild Western Melody, 'Joe Bowers.' Respectfully dedicated to the Hon. Thad. Stevens"
