If you have looked at some of my other auctions, Great-great grandfather Isaiah Linton was one of the first engineers for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and a young mentee and favorite of B&O President Mr. Philip Thomas. Great-great grandfather (we'll just call him "GGG" from this point) worked for a number of railroad companies throughout... his career, including over 40 years as chief engineer at the Cleveland & Pittsburgh Railroad. His grandson, Grandfather Robert Isaiah Linton did not follow in his or his father's footsteps, but was a successful attorney and political pundit. This listing is for Robert Isaiah Linton's personal ostrich feather chapeau, sword belt, and case; all from around 1905-1915.
The chapeau is in outstanding condition and was hand crafted at the highly-esteemed The M.C. Lilley & Co of Columbus, Ohio. The company also included his name in the manufacture of this size 7 1/4 chapeau.
The sword belt is intact with beautiful hardware and detail and also bears his name. The belt buckle itself, while beautiful in it's own right, does have enamel loss in the cross but does have the commandery and chapter. The case is original to the chapeau and houses both the chapeau and sword belt. The case is also from The M.C. Lilley & Co of Columbus, Ohio and was finished with his name, commandery, and chapter. Yes, if you look at the pictures you will notice that the original leather strap is broken and should be replaced if desired (case lid is nice and snug and holds itself on just fine).
This is a great collection of displayable history with both owner provenance as well as commandery and chapter provenance in Youngstown, Ohio.
Please remember to check my other auctions and always feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! Thank You for Looking!!
ABOUT THE SELLER:I have been on ebay for over 18 years and have NEVER had a negative feedback. I am not a store or business using ebay as a means of expanding my market. I simply enjoy auctions and estate sales and then selling on ebay. In recent years I have sold quite a bit for friends, family, and neighbors. I find it to be an enjoyable hobby during retirement – finding great items and doing research.
PAYMENT:For the protection of both the buyer and seller, PayPal is the only accepted payment method. Payment is due within three days of an auction end. If for some reason you need more time than this, just contact me and I am sure we can work something out.
SHIPPING:Shipping is ALWAYS through the United States Post Office. Having been an avid Ebayer in the past, I have found this to be the most efficient way of handling shipping and the most reasonable charges. Please remember that shipping and handling charges may include proper shipping materials, bubble envelopes, packing tape, insurance, delivery confirmation, etc. All my items ship within 24 hours of received payment and combined shipping will be utilized whenever possible at the rate of the highest shipping charge (please remember, USPS has a weight limit for first class delivery).
I will ship internationally to some countries but PLEASE contact me before bidding or purchasing an item so that arrangements can be made and confirmed.GUARANTEES:
All items I sell are guaranteed authentic. I spend a lot of time doing research on each and every item I post. If I even suspect that an item is not authentic (e.g. autographed items), I will either send the item to PSA, JSA, or GAI for authentication, or, as has been the new trend, use a notable company’s digital online review service. Any item not found to be authentic is destroyed to make sure fraudulent items do not get in the wrong hands and remain in the market.
