Description:Up for sale is one of the most iconic and Powell Peralra... skateboards of all time. Here is a original 1988 7-Ply Steve Caballero dragon and bats in a beautiful blue dip. This is a genuine vintage Powell Peralta and not a reissue. This skateboard has been set up and displayed but has never been used, not even once! Although it’s not in perfect condition it’s in new/never ridden condition. This one was a factory complete from day one.I actually purchased this off of eBay back in 1999 believe it or not. I purchased it from a california skateboard wholesale Company that purchased a couple thousand Powell Peralta factory completes that were sitting in the Powell warehouse for over a decade.
This is a first run of the “7-Ply” dragon & bats model after the bonite failure. This one has a minor imperfection with the paint on graphics and can be described as mtacky. Although a minor imperfection, it does not take away anything when this one is hanging up on display! This one is a small piece of history actually and has an interesting story behind it. Although this is not a “blem” and does not have a 2 under truck it has a minor issue with the paint. After Powell’s stopped manufacturing the XT bonite decks they had a minor paint issue that did not settle like normal. The first run of seven ply decks made after the bonite decks all had the same issue. In so many words, it is comparable to missing a final layer of coating to seal some of the paint Colors used for the main graphic. You can zoom in on the graphics and see what I’m talking about. It is not a big deal whatsoever and it will forever display exactly as it appears. If you are a big Powell Collector i’m sure you already know about this but I thought I would mention anyways. Certain colors of paint can “smudge” if wiped hard with a wet towel. This deck displays beautifully especially with my custom set up with the orange risers and extremely rare orange wheels. The same paint issue has been noted on the dragon & bats model, Tommy Guerrero’s Dagger model, Lance mountains family model and one other that I can’t remember. Anyways Powell made all of these factory Completes.
Wheels:Included on the board is there a set of near mint orange 1978 Powell Bones 65mm wheels. This is one of the first dual purpose Bones wheels. Tony hawk used this style wheel throughout various points in the 80s. It was actually this style wheel Tony hawk modeled the T-Bones model after! Insanely rare and absolutely beautiful condition. The text on 3 of the 4wheels is near perfect. Only a few scuffs on 1 wheel. Hardly any dirt and completely clean. Trucks:The deck contains a pair of Powell Peralta factory trucks. these were put on factory complete skateboards. The top bushing on bottom truck has dried out and needs replacing but those can be purchased for virtually nothing.
I hate to get rid of the skateboard because I know I’m never going to get another Red Ripper in such condition again. As you probably know, in the last few years all “pig shaped” Powell Peralta decks have a come extremely scarce and hard to find. No matter what age, these Vintage Powell Peralta model skateboards with the iconic graphics will always be sought after. Not only do these images define a period in time, but these graphics are responsible for creating the support of skateboarding as we know it… And I’ll say that as a fact!! These iconic graphics of the Ripper, Skull & Sword, skull and snake and other models have continuously increased in value and demand while they become more scarce and hard to find every year!
