Antique Chinese Oxblood Langyao Glazed Tianquiping Bottle Vase Qing Dynasty. Measures Approx. 16 inches tall x 9 inches diameter. No damage present. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. A stunning Chinese Qing dynasty langyao monochrome red glazed tianquiping bottle vase, 19th century. Of bottle form, the vase with a globular body and tall, wide neck, all sitting upon a short recessed foot and covered in a fascinating monochrome red glaze of crushed raspberry color. The glaze displayi...ng wonderful streaking throughout the body and a glassy finish with a very subtle crackle just under the surface. The runny glaze covering the foot, and showing signs of having been cut off the firing block and ground down. The recessed foot is unglazed with six character Yung Cheng reign mark. The complex glaze is known by many names, including "Langhong", Niuxuehong, "Copper Red", "Ox Blood", "Sang de Boeuf" and "Langyao". The traditional Langhong glaze has strict requirements on the atmosphere and temperature of firing, so it is very difficult to make a successful work.Turning the vase over, one can see just how thick and unctuous the glaze truly is, covering much of the foot, and showing signs of having been broken off the firing block. While this is typical for late Qing ceramics with this type of runny, flambé glaze, the incredible thickness of the glaze is remarkable.
